This month saw me back to Llangollen for the BDS National Championships. I knew the course would be altered for the event but what was in store for me was far from what anyone expected. This time the first half of the course (the new half) dropped through tightly packed trees and roots with a loamy ground littered with loose rocks. After a shaky start on Saturday I managed to pick up the courage for a first run down, like many others I found the gradient ridiculously steep, looking back after a section thinking ‘’How did I get down that ?!’’. The track dried out though throughout the day, leaving me confident for an early start the following day. However, for no apparent reason my practice run on Sunday was awful, I had no feel for the bike. My seeding run was worse and as I clattered over the handlebars it was me vs a tree. The tree won. Unfortunately this made me choose not to do my race run; I couldn’t risk having the same injury I faced at Moelfre. But looking back on it, I think it was the right decision. My next race is an NDH round at Ramsgill 20th August, can’t wait!
